More than 900 young people, families and residents came together for a celebration of football, diversity and community
The 18th Annual Tower Hamlets Community Cup and Fun Day brought together more than 900 young people, families, supporters and local residents for an unforgettable day of football, free activities and community celebration.
Hosted by Osmani Trust at Stepney Green Park and the 3G Astro on Tuesday 28 July 2026, the event welcomed teams and residents from across Tower Hamlets.
Players competed in a series of exciting matches throughout the day, demonstrating teamwork, determination and excellent sportsmanship. Families and supporters filled the venue, creating a positive and welcoming atmosphere that celebrated the strength and diversity of the local community.
A Fun Day for the whole community
Alongside the football tournament, this year’s Fun Day welcomed more than 300 local residents and visitors.
Families enjoyed a wide range of free games, interactive activities and entertainment for all ages. Community organisations, local groups and businesses also hosted stalls showcasing their services, products and contribution to the borough.
The Fun Day created an opportunity for residents to connect, discover local organisations and enjoy a welcoming community event together.
The importance of partnership and community events
Reflecting on the event, Councillor Minara Khatun, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism at Tower Hamlets Council, said:
“Community events like this are extremely important because they bring people together and give families, children and young people opportunities they may not otherwise have. Organisations such as Osmani Trust have trusted relationships with local communities, and by working together with the Council we can reach more residents and create positive experiences that strengthen the whole borough.”
The event demonstrated the impact that can be achieved when community organisations, public services, volunteers, coaches and local families work together.
Creating opportunities through sport
The Tower Hamlets Community Cup is about more than competition. It provides a positive environment in which young people can participate, develop their confidence, build friendships and represent their communities with pride.

Seeing hundreds of young people come together to compete, build friendships and represent their communities with pride was truly inspiring.
