Osmani Active is a community sports and health programme aimed at improving physical and mental wellbeing among children and young people aged 8–19 in Tower Hamlets. The programme responds to high levels of childhood obesity, poverty, and barriers to participation in sport, particularly for girls, young women, and Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities.
Through culturally sensitive delivery, Osmani Active promotes healthy lifestyles by combining regular physical activity with education around nutrition, wellbeing, and confidence. The programme is designed to reduce barriers, build routine, and support long-term behaviour change through accessible, local provision.
Osmani Active delivers weekly sports sessions across football, basketball, and badminton, including women-only and age-specific provision to ensure accessibility and cultural safety. Sessions are delivered by trained coaches and supported by behaviour-change workshops covering healthy eating, goal-setting, and risk awareness.
The programme also creates clear progression routes, enabling participants to move from attendance into volunteering, leadership, and coaching pathways. Community tournaments and events act as gateways into sustained engagement, while partnerships with health and youth organisations strengthen impact and reach.
